Associate Professor Daniel G. Aaron holds a dual role as an Associate Professor of Law at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, University of Utah, and a practicing legal scholar with expertise in administrative law, health law, and public policy. He earned his M.D. from the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. His research focuses on the intersection of law and medicine, particularly how regulatory failures and legal frameworks impact public health, life expectancy, and systemic inequities. Prior to his academic career, he served as Assistant Chief Counsel at the FDA and clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Dr. Aaron’s work analyzes legal responses to crises such as opioid addiction, e-cigarette regulation, and gender-affirming care, emphasizing the role of administrative agencies and courts in shaping health outcomes. He is a member of the Center for Law and Biomedical Sciences (LABS) at Utah Law, collaborating on projects like mass tort litigation and Supreme Court case analyses. His teaching includes courses on Torts and Health Law, fostering discussions on systemic justice and legal accountability.
Key areas of research include FDA regulatory authority, corporate liability, and the legal dimensions of racial inequity in healthcare. He has contributed to high-impact publications in JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, and legal reviews, addressing topics such as medical malpractice standards, Medicare Advantage critiques, and the implications of Supreme Court rulings on public health policy.
