Professor Daniel Freeman holds the Chair of Psychology in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. He is also a Consultant Clinical Psychologist at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and a Professorial Fellow at Magdalen College Oxford. His research focuses on developing cognitive-behavioral interventions for mental health conditions, particularly paranoia and psychosis, leveraging virtual reality (VR) for treatment and assessment. He pioneered gameChange, an automated VR therapy for psychosis, and the Feeling Safe program for persecutory delusions. Freeman’s work spans clinical trials, public health initiatives, and translational research.
Education: MA (Cantab) from the University of Cambridge, PhD and DClinPsy from King's College London. He has held fellowships from the Wellcome Trust and Medical Research Council, and is an NIHR Senior Investigator. Awards include the 2020 British Psychological Society Presidents' Award.
Key projects include Phoenix VR self-confidence therapy, Sleeping Better for sleep-related psychosis trials, and OCEAN studies on vaccine hesitancy. He founded Oxford VR, a University spinout, and has authored multiple books on paranoia and mental health.
