Daniel Edgard Karkle is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering at the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, Kansas State University, where he joined in November 2022. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in advanced production management, inventory control, and interdisciplinary senior design.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Kansas State University (2011)
- Graduate Certificate in Applied Statistics from Kansas State University (2011)
- Graduate Certificate in Accounting and Finance from UFPR - Brazil (2007)
- B.Sc. in Civil Production Engineering from UFPR - Brazil (2005)
Karkle's research centers on project management and risk-based decision-making for large industrial capital projects, human factors in highway safety, and operations management. His doctoral work analyzed centerline rumble strips' safety effectiveness, noise impacts, and lateral positioning effects on Kansas highways. Professional expertise spans capital project evaluation, statistical/AI applications in project systems, and cross-sector consulting across oil/gas, mining, chemicals, and infrastructure in eight countries.
Prior to K-State, he spent 10+ years as a consultant at Independent Project Analysis, Inc., evaluating 70+ capital projects including 20 mega-projects for Fortune 500 clients. Additional experience includes six months as a senior manager at Deloitte Brazil structuring AI-driven capital allocation systems, one year in Brazilian construction production planning, and four years as a Second Lieutenant in the Brazilian Army Artillery.
