Daniel E. O’Sullivan is a Professor of French and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Mississippi. He holds a B.A. from College of the Holy Cross (1992), an M.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill (1994), and a Ph.D. in Romantic Languages from Boston College (2000). His research focuses on medieval vernacular song, memory, orality, and textuality in song transmission. He has held leadership roles including Senior Fellow of the Residential College South (2009–2013) and Department Chair since 2017.
His publications include An Introduction to the Trouvères (in progress), co-edited volumes on Thibaut IV of Navarre’s songs and founding feminisms in medieval studies. His articles analyze medieval lyric genres, manuscript culture, and intersections of music, art, and literature.
Dr. O’Sullivan has received multiple awards, including the 2017 Faculty Achievement Award and 2008 Teacher of the Year honors. Courses taught span medieval French literature, language history, and French culture.
