Daniel H. Deudney is a Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University's Krieger School of Arts & Sciences. He holds a PhD from Princeton University and has held roles as a legislative assistant, Worldwatch Institute researcher, and TransAtlantic Academy fellow. His research focuses on international relations theory, political theory, republicanism, and contemporary global issues like nuclear policy, outer space governance, and environmental politics.
Education: BA in Political Science & Philosophy (Yale University), MPA in Science/Technology/Public Policy (George Washington University), PhD in Political Science (Princeton University).
Research explores intersections of global security, republican institutional design, and planetary geopolitics. Recent work addresses risks of space expansionism and nuclear proliferation. Co-authored influential studies on the Liberal International Order and post-Cold War geopolitics. Current projects include PAX ATOMICA (geopolitics of arms control) and HOME RULES (planetary governance frameworks).
Award-winning educator with four major teaching honors, including the Alumni Distinguished Teaching Award at JHU. Publications span over 30 years with works recognized by major academic associations.
Labs/Teams: Active in transatlantic policy research networks through affiliations like the German Marshall Fund's TransAtlantic Academy. Collaborates frequently with John Ikenberry on liberal order theories.
