Daniel Cziczo is a Professor and Head of the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at Purdue University. He holds a Ph.D. in Geophysical Sciences from the University of Chicago (1999), an M.S. from the same institution (1997), and a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois (1992). His research focuses on the chemical composition of atmospheric aerosols and their role in cloud formation, radiative budget, and meteoritic debris in the atmosphere. Key contributions include studies on ice nucleation mechanisms, biomass burning aerosols, and stratospheric aerosols.

Research interests emphasize aerosol impacts on climate, including ice nucleation by organic and mineral particles, the role of anthropogenic emissions, and the effects of wildfire smoke on atmospheric processes. He leads field campaigns such as the Fifth International Workshop on Ice Nucleation (FIN) and collaborates with institutions like NASA and UCAR.
His awards include the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE, 2005) and multiple NASA Group Achievement Awards. He serves on advisory boards for Science for the Public and UCAR's President's Advisory Committee on University Relations.
Notable contributions include advancing understanding of ice-nucleating particles, aerosol phase-state effects, and the design of instruments like the Phase Separation Inlet for Droplets, Ice Residuals, and Interstitial Aerosols (SPIDER) for cloud studies.
