Daniel Coren is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath. His research focuses on pedagogical innovation in engineering education, particularly through project-driven learning and the integration of digital-physical interactions. Key technical interests include light electric vehicle systems (propulsion, aerodynamics, thermal management), in-cylinder engine dynamics, and gas turbine cooling systems. Coren has contributed to experimental studies on turbine hub cavities, bicycle frame stiffness, and opposed-piston engine efficiency. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2018) and actively collaborates on sustainable transport solutions.
His teaching philosophy emphasizes problem-solving through the 'Why-What-How' framework, prioritizing hands-on learning and iterative design processes. Coren developed the Science Informed Practical Problem Solving (SIPPS) approach, linking academic theory with real-world engineering challenges. He has also reviewed technical papers for ASME and IMechE, reflecting expertise in both mechanical systems and educational methodologies.
