Dr. Daniel Cook is a Lecturer in the School of Design at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education & Social Justice. His research spans two primary domains: design education and apicultural science. In design education, he explores the integration of AI tools like ChatGPT into pedagogical practices and investigates industry-academia collaboration through autoethnographic studies. His work on accessible autonomous vehicles focuses on universal design principles to enhance mobility for people with disabilities, addressing both technical and ethical challenges. In apiculture, Cook specializes in non-invasive hive health monitoring, thermal impacts on bee colonies, and ergonomic improvements in beekeeping practices.
His academic contributions include co-authoring chapters on AI in design education (2025), peer-reviewed papers on bee colony auditing (2024), and reports for Horticulture Innovation Australia on hive health assessment systems. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects like the Accessible Autonomous Vehicle (AAV) initiative, aiming to redefine inclusive transportation systems. Cook’s research also aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education, decent work, and climate action.
Notable publications include studies on temperature sensing in honeybee colonies (2022), ergonomic case studies in apiculture (2019), and design principles for universal mobility solutions (2023). His work bridges technical innovation with social responsibility, emphasizing practical applications in real-world contexts.
