Daniel Charles Sneider is a Lecturer in International Policy at Stanford's Ford Dorsey Master’s in International Policy and a Lecturer in East Asian Studies at Stanford University. His academic affiliation is with the Center for East Asian Studies. He holds a BA in East Asian History from Columbia University and an MPA from Harvard University's Kennedy School. His research focuses on U.S. foreign and national security policy in Asia, Japanese and Korean foreign policy, and the historical dynamics of East Asian security alliances.
From 2017, he has been a Visiting Researcher at the Canon Institute for Global Studies in Tokyo, studying U.S. security alliances with Japan and South Korea during the Cold War. He previously led the 'Divided Memories' project at the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center, analyzing wartime historical memory in East Asia. Sneider has authored/co-authored influential works such as Divergent Memories (Stanford UP) and contributed to major policy analyses like North Korea: Peace? Nuclear War?
His awards include the 2010 National Asia Research Fellowship. He regularly publishes in outlets like the New York Times, Foreign Policy, and Financial Times, and has a background as a foreign correspondent for the Christian Science Monitor and San Jose Mercury News.
