Daniel Chacón is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Creative Writing at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), within the College of Liberal Arts. His work focuses on Fiction Writing, Latinx Literature, Mysticism, Fairy Tales, Koans, and Kafka-inspired narratives. Chacón is renowned for his novels and short story collections, including The Cholo Tree (2017), Hotel Juárez (2013), and Unending Rooms (2008), which have garnered awards such as the Pen Oakland Award and the Hudson Prize. He is also an editor of posthumous works by Andrés Montoya and José Antonio Burciaga.
Chacón’s research explores themes of cultural identity, existentialism, and narrative experimentation. His radio show, Words on a Wire, further highlights his engagement with literary discourse. Awards include the American Book Award, the Chris Isherwood Foundation Grant, and the Peter and Jean de Main Emerging Writers Award. His academic roles include teaching courses like 'Metaphors in Physics' and 'Reading and Writing Fiction.'
