Daniel Bowles is an Associate Professor of German Studies at Boston College, affiliated with the Eastern, Slavic, and German Studies department. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University (2015) and has taught courses ranging from German language to literary theory and cultural studies. His research focuses on post-1945 German literature, particularly satire, the fantastic, gender studies, and intertextuality. He has been supported by prestigious grants including the Fulbright Foundation, Whiting Foundation, and Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study.
His notable translations include Christian Kracht's IMPERIUM, which won the Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator’s Prize in 2016. Bowles has also contributed to literary journals like The Paris Review and Germanic Review. His work explores themes such as modernism, madness, and globalization in contemporary German literature.
