Daniel B. F. Saris

Daniel B. F. Saris, M.D., Ph.D., is a Consultant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Co-Chair of the Division of Sports Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He holds the academic rank of Professor of Orthopedics and Regenerative Medicine.

His research focuses on regenerative biological reconstruction of joints, cartilage and meniscus repair, and advanced imaging strategies. He is internationally recognized for pioneering work in cell-based therapies, including the invention of the one-stage IMPACT cell therapy and contributions to the regulatory approval of MACI and ChondroCelect.

Recent publications highlight trends in single-stage cartilage repair, meniscus regeneration using mesenchymal stromal cells, long-term outcomes of osteotomies and arthroplasties, and biological joint preservation. His work spans translational research, clinical trials, and surgical innovation.

He also serves as Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Bone and Tissue Bank.

His research is conducted within the Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics and Sports Medicine Research at Mayo Clinic, where he leads efforts in biological joint reconstruction and advancing regenerative orthopedic therapies.
