Professor Daniel A. Hoyt holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas (2004) and is affiliated with the Department of English at Kansas State University. He is a creative writer and scholar specializing in fiction, contemporary American literature, 19th-century British literature, and interdisciplinary studies. His works include novels *Shit List*, *This Book Is Not for You*, and the short-story collection *Then We Saw the Flames*. He also contributes to literary magazines like *The Kenyon Review* and *Missouri Review*.
Before joining Kansas State, Hoyt taught at Baldwin-Wallace College (2004–2010), where he won the Ohio Arts Council’s Individual Excellence Award in Fiction (2009). His current projects include a serial novel addressing homelessness in Lawrence, Kansas, published on Bluesky. He founded American Buffalo Books and has a background in journalism, working for newspapers in Missouri, Wisconsin, and New York in the 1990s.
His teaching focuses on creative writing, with academic interests in Charles Dickens and video games’ intersection with literature. He advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to literary studies.
