Dani Dixon

Associate Professor Dani Dixon holds academic positions at Flinders University (College of Medicine and Public Health) and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Canada. She is Head of The Lung Lab and Joint Head of the Radon Research Facility. Her expertise spans innate immunology, acute and chronic lung injury (e.g., ALI/ARDS, bronchiolitis), and heart failure. She has secured over $3M in research funding and published >60 peer-reviewed articles. Education includes a PhD in Paediatrics (2004) and a BSc in Immunology/Genetics (1995).

Research focuses on leukocyte regulation of lung defense mechanisms, fluid dynamics in pulmonary edema, and translational therapies for acute lung injury. Key contributions include identifying immunological links between maternal breast milk and infant respiratory health.

Awards include the 2003 International Lactation Consultant Association Research Poster Award, 2015 SA Medical Scientists Professional Development Award, and multiple grants/review roles. She mentors PhD students and advises on clinical translation, animal welfare, and intensive care medicine.
