Eng Ooi

Eng Ooi is a Professor at Flinders University and Head of the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Unit at Flinders Medical Centre. He serves as Director of the Flinders Rhinology Fellowship program and Chair of the Head and Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Team.

Research interests span rhinology, skull base surgery, head and neck oncology, and obstructive sleep apnea. His work focuses on drug repurposing for cancer, biomarker development, multi-level airway surgery, and quality of life outcomes. He has contributed over 100 peer-reviewed publications and secured $2.6 million in research funding.

Recent research trends highlight his leadership in clinical trials for obstructive sleep apnea surgery, nerve stimulation techniques, and mucosal microbiome studies, with a strong emphasis on Australian Indigenous health and translational medicine.

Scientific awards include prestigious scholarships from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Foundation. He supervises a team of 7 surgeons, 2 registrars, ENT Medical Scientist, and research nurse practitioners.

Mentorship and training are central to his career, with supervision of PhD, Masters of Surgery, and Honours students. He actively contributes as editorial board member for 4 journals and peer reviewer for 9 journals.
