Dana Vrajitoru is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Computer and Information Sciences department at Indiana University South Bend. She also serves as an advisor for student clubs and holds the Club Adviser of the Year Award (2020). Her research focuses on genetic algorithms, artificial intelligence, simulation, parallel computation, and information retrieval.
Education: She earned a Doctor of Science (1997) and Diploma in Computer Science (1994) from the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, and a Diploma in Computer Science (1993) from the University 'Al. I. Cuza' Iasi, Romania. As a graduate student, her motorcycle hobby inspired some research projects.
Her work bridges theoretical computer science with practical applications, such as trajectory optimization for car racing using genetic algorithms and neural networks for autonomous systems. Recent grants include a Teaching with Technology Grant ($549, 2015) and a Distance Learning Development Grant for a multiuser operating systems course ($300, 2011).
Publications highlight contributions to AI, evolutionary computation, and educational gaming. She authored books like Practical Analysis of Algorithms (2014) and The 2D Games Journey (2013).
