Dr. Richards specializes in melanoma research, focusing on tyrosine kinases (ABL1/2, DDR1), MEK/ERK/MYC signaling pathways, and cysteine cathepsin secretion in tumor metastasis. His work addresses drug resistance mechanisms in melanoma, particularly for MAPK inhibitors, and includes clinical studies on biopsy techniques.
Current research projects include:
- Targeting ABL1/2 and DDR1 in NRAS-mutant melanoma (V Foundation, 2025-2029)
- Combating melanoma resistance via ABL1/2 inhibition (National Cancer Institute, 2022-2027)
- Developing therapies for metastatic melanoma (Markey Cancer Center Foundation, 2023-2025)
His publications span molecular oncology, clinical pathology, and nephrology, with recent work on thyroid nodule testing, dialysis-related pain syndromes, and precision oncology approaches.
