Dana Rice, DrPH, is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Gillings School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She specializes in public health leadership, mass incarceration, and health equity, blending academic and practical experience in her work.

Dr. Rice’s research focuses on the intersection of public health practice and academia, particularly addressing the health impacts of mass incarceration, correctional healthcare systems, and community engagement for health equity. She has developed models for institutionalized population healthcare and trained medical students in public health principles.
As a faculty member in the Department of Public Health Leadership and Practice, she teaches core courses like Community Engagement and Leadership in Health and electives including Mass Criminalization, Mass Incarceration and Public Health, reaching over 70 degree programs under her academic oversight.
