Dana Murphy

Dana Murphy is Associate Professor in Psychology at Nipissing University's Faculty of Arts and Science. Her research examines cognitive aging with emphasis on sensory processing, attention mechanisms, and inhibitory control across auditory and visual domains.

Current projects investigate how emotional valence influences change detection in aging populations and age-related differences in temporal auditory processing. Methodologies include reaction time measurements, physiological monitoring, and sensory integration tasks.

Publications in journals such as Psychology and Aging explore aging effects on perceptual filtering, attentional control, and sensory distraction. Her work demonstrates that while older adults show preserved abilities in certain attentional tasks, they exhibit modality-specific vulnerabilities to distraction.
