Dr. Dana Francisco Miranda is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He holds a B.A. from Bard College and earned both his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. As a scholar, he investigates the intersection of political structures, historical processes, and psychological impacts.
His research examines how normalized social and political arrangements create systemic inequalities that benefit certain groups while harming others, particularly focusing on Afro-diasporic communities. Miranda's work develops critical frameworks to analyze these 'disordered' systems and proposes alternative 'counter-orders' through:
- Africana philosophical analysis of colonial legacies
- Existentialist examinations of lived experience under oppression
- Psychosocial studies of mental health impacts within racialized societies
- Political philosophy addressing structural violence
Professionally, he serves as Secretary of Digital Outreach and Chair of Architectonics for the Caribbean Philosophical Association, facilitating scholarly exchange and intellectual infrastructure development within his field.
