Professor Dan Xiao is a prominent academic in the Department of Physics at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Science. His research focuses on advancing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies, integrating artificial neural networks for enhanced data analysis, and developing low-cost, portable MRI systems. He has led initiatives such as the Essex CORe science facility and actively promotes women in science through programs like the USci Network’s Women in Science Initiative.
Dr. Xiao emphasizes hands-on learning, mentoring students in projects like the Outstanding Scholars program and hackathons. His work spans biomedical engineering, material science, and porous media analysis, with notable contributions to SPRITE MRI, T2/T1 mapping, and RF coil optimization. He collaborates with industry and government, as seen during a visit by Canada’s science minister Kirsty Duncan to the Essex CORe facility.
His publications highlight innovations in MRI hardware design, neural network applications for signal processing, and non-invasive diagnostic methods. Advising students on topics from cell tracking to cement paste characterization, Xiao bridges theoretical research with practical, real-world applications in healthcare and engineering.
