Dr. Dan Tonge is Senior Lecturer in Biosciences at Keele University's School of Life Sciences and serves as Director of Postgraduate Research. He is the Designated Individual for Keele's Human Tissue Authority research-sector license. With expertise in molecular sequencing and bioinformatics, his research employs next-generation sequencing technologies for understanding human health and disease mechanisms.
His current projects include characterizing extracellular vesicle miRNA cargo, biomarker identification for cell transplantation therapies, de novo transcriptome assembly, and microbiome analysis using multi-platform sequencing (Illumina, PacBio, Nanopore). He leads bioinformatics for several major grants including BBSRC Engineering Biology and EPSRC awards, with international collaborations in China and South Africa supported by a Royal Society Travel Grant.
