Dan Schill is a Professor in the School of Communication Studies and Affiliate Professor in Political Science at James Madison University. He specializes in political communication, media, and technology, with a focus on digital advocacy and social media's role in politics. His teaching awards include JMU's Carl Harter Distinguished Teacher Award and the School of Communication Top Teacher Award.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. His research explores the intersection of communication, politics, and technology, with notable publications including Political Communication and Digital Advocacy (2025) and Social Media Politics (2024). He has served as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow and frequently consults on political dial focus groups for media organizations.
His work has appeared in journals like Journal of Political Marketing and American Behavioral Scientist, earning top paper awards from multiple communication associations. He advises on media strategies in political campaigns and has pioneered studies on real-time political communication dynamics.
