Dan Poston is a Professor of English/American Studies and International Literatures at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, Germany. He holds a Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies from CUNY (2018), M.F.A. in Writing from Bard College (2008), and degrees from NYU and Harvard. His research focuses on global/transcultural theatre histories, 18th-century British and American literature, and intersections between performance, politics, and intellectual history.
Teaching includes advanced seminars on topics like Indigenous North American theatre, psychoanalysis and literature, and Ensemble Theatre Composition. He coordinates ERASMUS+ programs and has organized major public events, including roles on the 2008 Obama National Advance Team and the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee.
Publications include the monograph Joseph Addison: An Intellectual Biography (2023) and articles on topics ranging from Carson McCullers’ Cold War narratives to the reception of Shakespeare’s Henriad. His work bridges early modern studies with contemporary performance practices, emphasizing interdisciplinary methods.
Recent articles explore Enlightenment science in literature and digital humanities approaches to 18th-century essays. He frequently presents at international conferences such as the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies and the International Federation for Theatre Research.
