Matthew Rigilano, Ph.D., is an Associate Teaching Professor jointly appointed in the Department of English and the Writing Program at The Pennsylvania State University. His scholarship bridges 18th-century British literature, composition and rhetoric, psychoanalysis, continental philosophy, and media aesthetics.

Research Interests:
Rigilano’s work interrogates strange representations of subjectivity in early modern and Enlightenment texts—invisible characters, comatose figures, and speaking objects—while also engaging contemporary cultural criticism on small talk under hyperindustrial capitalism and perversion as a structuring logic in modern literary fiction.
His current research explores the intersection of aesthetics, new media technologies, and human identity in the 21st century, themes he integrates into his writing pedagogy.
