Dan Pacheco is a Professor of Practice and holds the Peter A. Horvitz Endowed Chair in Journalism Innovation at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University. He is a pioneer in virtual reality (VR) applications for journalism, notably co-producing Harvest of Change (2014), the first large-scale VR project by a commercial news organization, which earned a 2015 Edward R. Murrow Award. His expertise spans digital publishing, social networking platforms, and emerging technologies like augmented reality (AR), mixed reality, and chatbots.
Research Focus: Pacheco explores how new technologies shape media innovation. His work bridges traditional journalism with cutting-edge tools, emphasizing immersive storytelling and democratized publishing. He previously led digital initiatives at Washingtonpost.com and AOL, and received a Knight News Challenge grant (2007) to develop an eBook platform.
