Dr. Dan Nyandega is a Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the School of Architecture & Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering. He holds a PhD in Architecture (Water Sensitive Cities/Design) from Monash University and a Master of Architecture from KU Leuven, Belgium. His career includes postdoctoral research at Monash University's MADA Urban Lab and teaching roles at Monash and RMIT Universities. Nyandega specializes in water-sensitive urban design, flood/drought resilience, and shoreline infrastructure futures. His research integrates design-led approaches to address climate challenges in coastal and urban environments.
Key research interests include designing decentralized water infrastructures, adapting to sea-level rise, and leveraging public spaces for ecological resilience. He has contributed to exhibitions like High and Low: Cycles of Water and Land and Swamped: Future Scenarios for Elwood. Nyandega’s teaching spans design studios, urban theory, and materiality, emphasizing hands-on exploration of water and urban dynamics. He is a member of the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK) and actively engages in international academic collaborations.
