Dan Kistler is an Associate Professor of Studio Art and Chair of the Art and Art History Department at Principia College. He joined the faculty in 1995 after a decade as a commercial illustrator in Detroit, working with clients like Mercedes, Jeep, and Detroit Edison. His teaching focuses on graphic design, web design, illustration, and photography, and he has led study abroad programs to Greece, Turkey, and Italy.
Education: MA from Webster University and BA from Principia College.
Research interests include graphic design and photography. Notable contributions include designing and producing materials for Principia College, including the 1998 book Bernard Maybeck and Principia College: The Historic District. He has directed five study abroad programs and received the 2016 Horace Edwin Harper Jr. and Evelyn Wright Harper Award for Teaching Excellence.
Professional affiliations include the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) and the College Art Association. His career bridges academic and commercial art, with prior management experience in a marketing firm’s graphics department.
