Dan Fulford

Dr. Dan Fulford is an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Boston University, with joint ties to the BU Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation and the Rehabilitation Sciences Program. He holds a BA in Psychology from UCLA and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Miami.

His research examines severe mental illness (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder) through a biopsychosocial lens, focusing on:

• Behavioral interventions for motivation and self-management
• Mechanisms of goal setting and achievement
• Community-based psychosocial rehabilitation

He directs the Approach Motivation & Participation (AMP) Lab, which studies motivation dynamics in health contexts.

Dr. Fulford teaches graduate courses including Context and Occupational Performance, Doctoral Seminar in Rehabilitation Sciences, and Special Topics in Occupational Therapy, emphasizing clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
