Dan Fries

Dan Fries is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kentucky. He holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology (2020) and has held postdoctoral roles at the University of Texas at Austin.

• Current Appointment: Assistant Professor, University of Kentucky (2025–present)
• Previous Appointment: Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Associate, University of Texas at Austin (2020–2024)

His research focuses on high-enthalpy and high-speed flows with applications in aerospace propulsion, re-entry technologies, and environmental pollutant reduction. Key methodologies include plasma physics, combustion chemistry, and advanced optical diagnostics. The CoRe Flow Lab at UK supports experimental and modeling work in these areas.
