Dan F. Smelter is a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and holds an Adjoint Assistant Professor role at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. His research focuses on improving outcomes for cardiovascular bacterial infections through personalized medicine. He completed his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018 and a Pharm.D. from UW-Madison School of Pharmacy in 2022.

His research explores optimizing antibiotic therapies for gram-positive infections (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus) and investigates cardiovascular physiology mechanisms in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He was a Provost Early Career Fellow (2022–2023) under mentors Grace Lee, Chris Frei, and Kelly Reveles. He currently holds the Claude D. Pepper Center OAIC RL5 Award under Sunil Ahuja's mentorship.
