Damon Fordham

Damon Fordham is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of History at The Citadel, teaching courses in World Civilizations, United States History, and African-American History. He also taught US History and African-American Studies at the College of Charleston. Fordham holds undergraduate degrees from the University of South Carolina and a Master’s in History from the College of Charleston and The Citadel.

His research focuses on African-American history, folklore, and regional studies. Notable works include Black Folktales and Chronicles of South Carolina (2025), The 1895 Segregation Fight in South Carolina (2022), and contributions to Sweetgrass Baskets and the Gullah Tradition (2001). He conducts the walking tour 'The Lost Stories of Black Charleston' and has lectured internationally in Canada, Japan, the UK, and West Africa.

Fordham has been recognized with a South Carolina House of Representatives citation (2022) for education and human rights contributions and received the Key to Spartanburg (2001). His work bridges historical scholarship with community engagement, emphasizing oral histories and cultural preservation.
