Damien Neven is a Professor of International Economics at INSEAD, with a robust academic and professional background spanning multiple institutions including the University of Brussels, the College of Europe, and the University of Lausanne. He holds a PhD from Nuffield College, Oxford, and Master’s and BA degrees in Economics and Geography from the University of Louvain. His research focuses on competition policy, international economic integration, and regulatory enforcement, with particular emphasis on pharmaceutical markets and EU competition law.
Previously, Neven served as Chief Competition Economist at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition (2006–2011) and is currently on leave from that role. His work bridges economic theory and legal practice, with notable contributions to antitrust analysis, merger control, and the governance of global markets. Neven has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Antitrust Writing Award (2021) for his paper on pharmaceutical market definition post the ECJ Paroxetine judgment.
His publications span antitrust case analyses, state aid regulation, and the intersection of sports governance with competition law. Neven’s research frequently addresses the enforcement challenges posed by evolving market dynamics, particularly in regulated industries like pharmaceuticals and telecommunications.
