Damian Radcliffe is a Professor of Practice and the Carolyn S. Chambers Professor in Journalism at the University of Oregon. He is an affiliate faculty member of the Department for Middle East and North Africa Studies (MENA) and the Agora Journalism Center, and a Research Associate of the Center for Science Communication Research (SCR). With nearly 30 years of experience in the media industry, Radcliffe has worked across all media sectors including commercial, public, government, regulatory, academic, and nonprofit/civil society organizations.
Radcliffe holds an MA (Oxon) and BA in Modern History from the University of Oxford. His academic journey spans institutions in the USA, Middle East, and UK, with extensive experience across all media platforms including print, digital, TV and radio.
Radcliffe's research focuses on digital trends, social media, technology, the business of media, and the evolution of journalistic practice, with a special emphasis on the Middle East tech landscape. His work examines how media and technology intersect in the MENA region, analyzing platform usage, content creation, political communication, and cultural expression patterns. He has published extensively on social media trends in the Middle East, local journalism sustainability, and media business models.
His recent scholarly output reveals a strong focus on community-centered journalism, AI in journalism, and the evolving media landscape in the Global South. Radcliffe's research demonstrates how digital platforms are reshaping news consumption and production, particularly in emerging economies, while also examining sustainable business models for local news organizations.

Radcliffe actively advises students through his Next Generation Leaders podcast featuring conversations with young SOJC alumni. He founded and curates the Demystifying Media speaker series, which has hosted over 50 industry experts. His research has been supported by organizations including the BBC World Service, Facebook, Thomson Reuters Foundation, and the United Nations. Radcliffe collaborates extensively with international organizations and maintains strong connections with media professionals across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
He leads research initiatives examining local media ecosystems, social media trends in the Middle East, and innovative journalism business models. His work with the Agora Journalism Center focuses on redefining community-centered journalism practices, while his Middle East research tracks evolving digital communication patterns across the region.
