Dr. Damara McAndrew is a Senior Research Administration Officer and Principal Project Officer at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Queensland. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. Her work focuses on calcium signaling pathways in cancer and mammary gland biology, particularly investigating the roles of TRPV1, TRPV6, and Orai1 channels in breast cancer progression and lactation processes. She has contributed to over a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations since 2006.
Her research emphasizes understanding calcium’s role in cellular processes, aiming to identify novel therapeutic targets for breast cancer. Notable collaborations include studies with Professors Monteith and Roberts-Thomson, exploring molecular mechanisms underlying breast cancer cell physiology and mammary gland development.
Publications highlight her expertise in calcium homeostasis, store-operated channels, and transcriptional regulation in cancer contexts. While no scientific awards are listed, her work has been presented at prominent conferences such as the European Calcium Society and the American Society for Cell Biology.
Her role in research administration and project management underscores her dual contribution to both academic research and institutional support within the School.
