Dalin Tang is a Professor in the Mathematical Sciences Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), with affiliations in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology and Biomedical Engineering. He has been teaching and conducting cardiovascular modeling research at WPI since 1988, focusing on image-based simulations for plaque progression and rupture investigations.
- BA, Southeast University (1981)
- MA, University of Wisconsin, Madison (1985)
- PhD, University of Wisconsin, Madison (1988)
His research interests include computational biomathematics, biomedical engineering, and image-based modeling for cardiovascular diseases. He specializes in fluid-structure interaction (FSI) and finite element analysis applied to atherosclerotic plaque assessment.
His publications highlight advancements in 3D MRI-based modeling of atherosclerotic plaques, plaque wall stress analysis, and computational biomechanics. These works have received significant citations (303, 218, 173, 91) and include a best paper selection in the International Medical Informatics Association Year Book (2006).
- WPI Trustee’s Award for Outstanding Research and Creative Scholarship (2010)
- Elected Fellow, American Heart Association (2011)
- Elected Fellow, The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (2016)
Dalin Tang collaborates with faculty from Harvard, MIT, University of Washington, Washington University, Emory University, and Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a patent for image-based computational mechanical analysis and indexing for cardiovascular diseases.
