Dale Adams

Dale Adams is a Lecturer in the School of Humanities at The University of Western Australia (UWA), specializing in German Studies. He currently serves as Convenor of German Studies, overseeing the program’s curriculum and academic direction. Educated at the University of Heidelberg (MA 2003), Dalhousie University (MA 2004), and the University of Melbourne (PhD 2009), he held a Humanities and Social Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship at Melbourne from 2011 before joining UWA in 2013.

His research focuses on the intersection of literature, mathematics, and science, particularly investigating how German and European literature (18th–20th centuries) engages with mathematical concepts like probability. Current projects explore the reception of probability theory in German-language literature post-1800, analyzing its philosophical and literary implications. His teaching spans all levels of the German Studies program, integrating language learning with cultural, historical, and literary studies.

Proficient in German and English, Dr. Adams has contributed to interdisciplinary research, publishing on authors such as E.T.A. Hoffmann, Bertolt Brecht, and Friedrich Dürrenmatt. His work bridges Romantic-era scientific thought with modern narrative techniques, highlighting how mathematical principles shape literary expression.
