Dai Oba is a political theorist specializing in normative political theory, focusing on the intersection of justice, political economy, and public policy. He holds a DPhil in Politics from the University of Oxford and is a JSPS Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Waseda University's Institute of Contemporary Political and Economic Research. His current academic roles include Research Associate at the University of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations and Associate Researcher at Waseda.
Education: DPhil in Politics (University of Oxford, 2024), MA in Political Science (Waseda University, 2017), and prior degrees from Keio University and International Christian University.
Research Interests: Policies of predistribution, Rawlsian pure procedural justice, welfare state ecological impacts, and the role of normative theory in policy guidance. His book project, *Predistribution: How to Pursue Justice in the Face of Neoliberalism*, is under review at Oxford University Press.
Awards: 2019 Japanese Political Science Association Young Scholar Paper Award.
Teaching: Tutored courses like *Advanced Theories of Justice* at Oxford and taught undergraduate courses at Waseda and Tokyo外国语 University. Active in academic presentations globally, including at the IPSA World Congress and Nuffield Political Theory Workshop.
