Dagmar Wujastyk is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of History, Classics, and Religion at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts. Her research focuses on South Asian history, Indology, and the intersection of medicine, alchemy, and yoga in pre-modern and modern contexts. She holds a PhD from the University of Bonn (2012) and has conducted extensive research on Ayurveda, rasaśāstra (Indian alchemy), and yoga's entangled histories.
As Principal Investigator (2015–2020), she led an ERC Starting Grant project examining rejuvenation practices across yoga, Ayurveda, and alchemy, collaborating with teams at Vienna University, Inform London, and the University of Alberta. Her edited volumes include works on Indian alchemy, mercury in medicine, and transnational Ayurveda studies.
Teaching focuses on medieval India, global alchemy history, Sanskrit, and research methods. Courses include HIST 292 (Medieval India) and HIST 700 (Graduate Research and Writing). She has held academic appointments continuously since at least 2020, with recent terms in 2023–2026.
Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary global healthcare trends, emphasizing textual analysis of classical medical treatises and colonial-era documentation. Key contributions include reinterpreting ethical frameworks in classical Ayurveda and tracing transnational trajectories of traditional healing practices.
