Dagmar Budikova is the Dean and Professor of Geography at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, affiliated with the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters. She holds a BSc (Environmental Science, 1996) from the University of Toronto and a PhD (Geography, 2001) from the University of Calgary.
Her research focuses on climatology, atmospheric teleconnections, Arctic-mid-latitude climate linkages, hydroclimatology, and geospatial analysis. Notable projects include studies on North American hydroclimatology and the impacts of Arctic cryospheric changes on mid-latitude weather patterns.
Dr. Budikova has held leadership roles including Department Chair (2015-2023), Associate Dean (2011-2015), and founder of the Institute of Geospatial Analysis & Mapping (GEOMAP, 2007-2010). Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and expanding educational/research opportunities in geospatial sciences and practice-based education.
Recent publications analyze winter season severity in the Midwest and links between Arctic sea ice variability and US heat waves. She has contributed to strategic initiatives enhancing academic programs and institutional vision-building.
