Daan Bossuyt is a Lecturer in Spatial Planning at Utrecht University's Department of Social Geography and Planning within the Faculty of Geosciences. His research focuses on the intersection of politics and urban development, with expertise in sustainability transitions, housing market dynamics, and land use policy. He holds a PhD from the University of Amsterdam on self-build housing and has conducted research in the Netherlands, Sweden, and Brazil. Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at TU Delft and contributed to NWO's BESEFOGO project on sustainable urban development through self-build initiatives.
As coordinator of the Planning Studio, he leads a community-engaged learning course where students collaborate with municipalities and local organizations on spatial planning projects, recently in Zwolle, Rotterdam, and The Hague. He teaches courses including 'Beyond Planning Theory' (MSc), 'Mixed Methods Research' (BSc), and 'Spatial Planning International Field Trip' (MSc).
His work explores innovative housing models like cooperatives and commons, alongside digital platforms' role in housing markets. Publications appear in journals such as Environment and Planning C and Housing Studies.
