Dr. Diksha Arora is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Utah, where she also serves as Honors Faculty Advisor and Teaching Faculty for the Health, Society and Policy (HSP) program. Her research focuses on the intersection of climate change, macroeconomic policy, gender disparities, and labor dynamics in Latin America. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Utah (2016) and an MSc in Development Economics from the University of Nottingham (2009). Prior to her academic role, she worked as a Gender Economist at CGIAR/CIAT in Colombia and as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Colorado State University.
Her work emphasizes gendered impacts of climate change, time poverty's economic consequences, and barriers to climate-smart agricultural practices. She has collaborated with organizations like the World Bank, FAO, and the Canada Caribbean Resilience Fund to integrate gender considerations into climate adaptation policies. Key contributions include analyzing gender disparities in job quality, macroeconomic policy effects, and disaster risk management in Caribbean nations.
Dr. Arora's research spans household economics, labor market segregation, and policy design. Her recent projects include evaluating gender norms in labor allocation (Mozambique), youth livelihood choices (Vietnam), and climate resilience strategies in Central American agriculture. She combines quantitative methods (CGE modeling, regression analysis) with participatory approaches to address socioeconomic challenges in development contexts.
Her advisory work includes promoting gender mainstreaming in Caribbean disaster policies and collaborating with Latin American governments on inclusive development programs. This multidisciplinary approach bridges academic research with actionable policy interventions aimed at reducing inequality and enhancing climate resilience.
