D. (Dick) Hoekstra is a Professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Groningen (UMCG). His research focuses on cell biology, neuroscience, and biophysics, particularly the molecular mechanisms underlying myelin biogenesis and oligodendrocyte function. He investigates how lipids, protein dynamics, and extracellular matrix interactions influence neurological disorders like multiple sclerosis. His work also explores nanotechnology applications for drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier.
