Cátia Magro is an Assistant Professor at SIT Graduate Institute, where she also serves as the Academic Director for the programs Portugal: Sustainability and Environmental Justice and Iceland: Renewable Energy, Technology, and Resource Economics (Summer 2). Her work bridges environmental engineering and sustainability, with a focus on electrochemical decontamination technologies, green hydrogen production, and sensor development for environmental monitoring.
- PhD in Environment and Sustainability (NOVA University of Lisbon, School of Science and Technology)
- MSc in Environmental Engineering (NOVA University of Lisbon, School of Science and Technology)
- BS in HiseedTech Training Program (NOVA School of Business and Economics, NOVA University Lisbon)
Dr. Magro’s research interests include electrochemical remediation systems, nanomaterials for environmental applications, and sensor networks for contaminant monitoring. She also explores green hydrogen production and the integration of remote sensing into climate change studies. Her work emphasizes scientific communication and gender equality in STEM, as reflected in her children’s book Aurora: The Adventures of a Future Scientist.
Her recent publications highlight the application of electrochemical reactors for wastewater treatment, real-time monitoring of organic contaminants, and the sustainability of construction materials through electrodialytic processes. These studies align with her broader goals of advancing environmental justice and climate action via interdisciplinary research.
Dr. Magro mentors HiseedTech research groups and previously held roles at the European Institute of Innovation & Technology-EIT-Climate KIC and CENSE Research Centre, where she led dissemination efforts. Her work has resulted in one patent application and 15 peer-reviewed articles in Science Citation Index journals.
