Cyrus Ghajar, PhD, is a Professor in the Public Health Sciences Division and Human Biology Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. He directs the Laboratory for the Study of Metastatic Microenvironments (LSM2) and holds the Peter S. Lefkarites Memorial Endowed Chair.
His research focuses on disseminated tumor cell (DTC) dormancy, metastasis prevention, and tumor microenvironment interactions. He investigates how DTCs evade chemotherapy and immunotherapies, and explores skeletal muscle as an anti-metastatic niche.
- 2022: Highlighted mechanisms of skeletal muscle-derived ROS in DTC suppression
- 2022: Reviewed tissue-specific DTC dormancy strategies
- 2022: Studied laminin-211 in brain metastasis
- 2019: Identified integrin-protective DTC mechanisms
His scientific awards include the Peter S. Lefkarites Memorial Endowed Chair. Former students include Sarah Crist (University of Minnesota), Andrea Lim (UCLA), and Lynn Symonds (University of Washington School of Medicine).
