Dr. Cynthia Wachtell is a Research Professor of American Studies and Director of the S. Daniel Abraham Honors Program at Yeshiva University. She specializes in 19th-to-21st-century American literature, with expertise in war literature and antiwar narratives.
Her research examines literary representations of conflict, cultural memory of wars, and the intersection of politics and literature. She has edited significant works including 'The Backwash of War' about WWI nurse Ellen N. La Motte.
Dr. Wachtell teaches courses covering American Jewish literature, censored texts, and composition. Her scholarship focuses on recovering marginalized voices in war literature and analyzing evolving patriotic narratives.
