Cynthia Milton is Professor of History at the University of Victoria. Former Canada Research Chair and Past President of the College of New Scholars of the Royal Society of Canada, she specializes in modern Latin American history with focus on human rights, memory, and transitional justice.
Her research examines truth-telling mechanisms, cultural interventions, and historical narratives after state violence. Recent publications analyze military countermemories, contested public spaces, and museological approaches to difficult knowledge.
Major honors include the Bolton-Johnson Prize, Humboldt Fellowship, Braudel Fellowship, and Trudeau Fellowship. Her curated exhibitions include 'Visual Footnotes: Art from a Fractured Past' exploring testimonial art.
Collaborative projects involve 'Beyond Museum Walls' and community-based research on displacement narratives. Publications appear in International Journal of Transitional Justice, Memory Studies, and edited volumes on cultural memory.
