Cynthia Marasigan

Cynthia Marasigan is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Director in the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at Binghamton University. Her research and teaching focus on U.S. history from the mid-19th century to the present, with a particular emphasis on U.S. Empire studies, comparative race studies, Philippine and Filipino American history, and Afro-Asian histories.

• Education: PhD in History from University of Michigan, MA in Historical Studies and Political Science from New School for Social Research, BA in History from Binghamton University

Her work intersects U.S. imperialism, Jim Crow, and colonial resistance, notably analyzing interactions between African American soldiers and Filipinos during the Philippine-American War. Current projects include the forthcoming book Empire’s Color Lines (Duke University Press).
