معرفی
Cynthia Le Doux-Bloom serves as a Lecturer and Research Associate in the Department of Fisheries Biology at Cal Poly Humboldt, teaching courses including General Oceanography Lab, Water Resources and Conservation, and Advanced Fisheries Conservation. She retired from California state service in 2019 after 31 years with the Departments of Water Resources and Fish & Wildlife, complemented by roles at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, MBARI, and environmental consulting firms.
Her educational background spans a Ph.D. in Animal Biology from UC Davis (2012), an M.S. in Marine Science & Bilingual Science Education from San Jose State University (1995), a B.A. in Marine Biology from UC Santa Cruz (1989), and an A.S. in Biology from Cabrillo College (1986).
- Ph.D., Animal Biology, 2012, University of California, Davis

Dr. Le Doux-Bloom's research centers on anadromous and marine fishes as ecosystem health indicators, with expertise in behavioral physiology, habitat use, and anthropogenic impacts. Her work bridges academic inquiry and practical resource management, emphasizing bilingual (English/Spanish) science communication and community-engaged approaches to aquatic conservation. Recent investigations focus on striped bass movement patterns, lamprey as "Anthropocene sentinels" for water quality assessment, and methylmercury impacts on Native Californian fishing communities.
Analysis of her publications reveals consistent themes in fisheries management under human-altered ecosystems, particularly examining how naval training activities, watershed modifications, and pollution affect fish physiology and habitat viability. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates toxicology, behavioral ecology, and policy frameworks to address conservation challenges in Pacific Coast watersheds.
As faculty advisor for the American Fisheries Society’s Humboldt Bay Student Subunit, she mentors emerging aquatic scientists through curriculum development and field-based learning. Her professional trajectory demonstrates sustained engagement with state/federal agencies including the Department of the Navy, Environmental Protection Agency, and California Fish & Game Commission, where she provided expert testimony on striped bass reproduction and Delta fisheries management.
Recreational pursuits including diving, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and kayaking directly inform her applied research methodology and teaching philosophy, fostering experiential learning connections between classroom theory and real-world aquatic ecosystems.
