Cynthia Gill is an Associate Professor of Physiology at Hampshire College and serves as Dean of Natural Science, Cognitive Science, and Critical Social Inquiry. She holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1988) and a Ph.D. in Comparative Neuroendocrinology from the University of Virginia (1997). Her postdoctoral research at the University of Texas focused on brain steroid receptor regulation in parthenogenetic and gender-reversed lizards.
Her research spans human and comparative physiology, neuroscience, endocrinology, and herpetology, with emphasis on neural regulation in response to environmental hormonal cues. She also explores conservation biology, behavioral biology, and exercise physiology through her athletic pursuits as a triathlete and adventure racer.
Teaching includes courses on Animal Physiology, Hormones/Brain/Behavior interactions, and the Science of Stress. She maintains affiliations with the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Organismal & Evolutionary Biology program (OEB Office: French Hall).
